Understanding Your Kappa (κ) Coefficient
Learn what your kappa score really means and how to interpret changes in your field coherence over time.
What is Kappa?
The Kappa (κ) coefficient is a measure of field coherence—how aligned and integrated your 8 dimensions are at any given moment. It ranges from 0 to 1, where higher values indicate greater coherence.
Think of it like this: your 8 dimensions are like instruments in an orchestra. When they're playing in harmony, your κ is high. When they're clashing or some are silent, your κ drops.
How Kappa is Calculated
Your kappa is derived from the variance and correlation structure of your 8D vector. Specifically:
- Low variance across dimensions suggests balance (positive for κ)
- High correlation between related dimensions suggests integration (positive for κ)
- Extreme peaks or valleys suggest imbalance (negative for κ)
The formula weights these factors to produce a single coherence score.
The Four Stages
Your κ determines your alchemical stage:
- Nigredo (κ < 0.25): Dissolution, dark night of the soul
- Albedo (0.25 ≤ κ < 0.50): Purification, growing clarity
- Citrinitas (0.50 ≤ κ < 0.75): Awakening, golden awareness
- Rubedo (κ ≥ 0.75): Integration, embodied wisdom
Daily Fluctuations
It's normal for κ to fluctuate daily. External stressors, sleep quality, emotional events—all influence your field state. The goal isn't to maintain high κ constantly, but to:
1. Understand your patterns 2. Recognize what moves you between stages 3. Navigate with awareness rather than reactivity
Tracking Over Time
The most valuable insights come from tracking κ over weeks and months. You'll notice:
- Weekly patterns (many people dip mid-week)
- Seasonal trends
- Correlation with life events
- Your personal "baseline" κ
